ABOUT BRANDON BESECKER
My name is Brandon Besecker and my journey into the world of art started on February 7th, 2021 as I looked at a boring coffee table in our living room and thought “that would look better with a mandala painted on the corner of it.”
With no memorable artistic experiences in my life, and last doing art in middle school, I considered hiring someone to do it for me. I have lots of professional artist friends, but didn’t have the money that they would deserve for painting the table for me so I started investigating how to paint mandalas. The more I dove in, the more I saw that this just may be something I could do. Freehand painting something, no way! But following lines and putting a dot specifically where it has to be, and of the exact size seemed natural for me! I’m very detail oriented and always have been. (I was a gunsmith’ apprentice in high school and tore down many modern and antique guns, refinished them, and rebuilt them and there’s no room for mistakes in that detail-oriented world!) I also took drafting and mechanical drawing in high school which requires precision line work. Alas, I owned no paint brushes and the only paint I had in my home was blacklight reactive shirt paint from a glow party the year before.
So I started my journey by laying out a design on a piece of printer paper and grabbing the UV paints, but had no brushes. So I used dots to fill in the areas by dipping ink pen caps, glue stick/chapstick lids into the paint and making dots. That’s how I got started.
Since then, I have been painting almost every day.
My first dot art!
